Transplant Outreach Clinics, Operations and Cost Assessment

Transplant Centers contract with Guidry & East to perform market share analyses of current transplant patient referrals, and projections for the future. With this information, Guidry & East assists Transplant Centers in identifying locations to establish Outreach Clinics for improved and increased patient referrals.

Outreach Clinics minimize the distance from the patient's hometown to the Transplant Center. The Outreach Clinic generally provides patient education, pre-transplant conferences, pre-transplant evaluations, pre-transplant maintenance and post-transplant follow-up care. Guidry & East performs a detailed cost analysis to help establish Outreach Clinics, as well as determine appropriateness for cost recoveries.

Market Share Analysis

Numerous Transplant Centers have contracted with Guidry & East to perform a Market Share Analysis at local, regional, and national levels. Senior Leadership should know and understand what their market share is by an independent objective source.

We perform an analysis of specific organ availability, the local and regional referral base, number of referrals, and the length of time from referral through workup to UNOS listing. We will also perform an actuarial analysis that is solely driven by utilization of objective numbers per population base that will equate to transplants.

Feasibility Study

Guidry & East is often called to assist hospitals in determining the "feasibility" of starting or expanding a transplant program. The following paragraphs reflect a sample of the typical information and data we gather before submitting the results of our Feasibility Study: Guidry & East interviews hospital Senior Leadership, including Medical Leadership, for the purpose of compiling their thoughts, visions, and concerns pertaining to the development/ expansion of the Transplant Program. Recommendations are made addressing appropriate institutional support and capital outlay for the development/expansion of the Transplant Program.

Guidry & East prepares a Financial Pro Forma/Impact Statement of the proposed Transplant Program. We determine what Capital Equipment and specialized medical devices the hospital must acquire, if any, for the Transplant Program. Guidry & East will develop a staffing plan for non-MDs for the Transplant Program from an operational and budgetary perspective.

If a new program is being considered, we assess the goals and operational requirements needed to obtain UNOS approval to start a Transplant Program. Guidry & East reviews the hospital's Medical and Surgical Professional Staff requirements for starting a UNOS-Certified Transplant Program. We review Clinical and Operational requirements to obtain Medicare Transplant approval. We also assess and quantify the costs associated with obtaining Medicare approval.

Most importantly, we perform a Market Analysis to ensure that the program's target market has a sufficient need for the Transplant Program, given the population and characteristics of the marketplace. We also perform a Market Analysis to assess the availability of Cadaver organs from the local and regional IOPA's to be utilized for the proposed Transplant Program.
